Image processing stays on your Mac.
Snip is a macOS app for capturing, annotating and exporting still images. It processes images on your Mac. Snip does not send screenshots, annotations or usage activity to the developer and does not operate an image-upload service.
The app has no account system, advertising SDK, analytics SDK or tracking. It does not sell your image content or share it with third parties. This policy describes the native app first; the separate section below covers this website's hosting.
Images and clipboard access.
Snip accesses screen content when you request a capture and macOS has granted Screen Recording permission. It opens files you choose and reads image content from the clipboard when you choose Paste. Audio capture is disabled, and there is no background video or audio recording.
When you choose Copy, Snip writes the rendered image to your Mac's clipboard as PNG and TIFF data. Save writes a PNG to a location you choose. Studio processes its background and styling locally.
Extract Text (Apple Vision).
Extract Text runs Apple Vision locally on the rendered, visible pixels of the current image. The recognized text is held in memory for you to review and edit; it is placed on your clipboard only when you choose Copy Text, and it is not written into the saved PNG. No image or text is uploaded, and no API key or account is used.
Automatic saving and retention.
Each capture is automatically saved as a flattened PNG. Editing a capture updates that PNG, and starting a new capture saves the previous image and its annotations first. Local direct builds use Pictures/Snip; sandboxed builds use the app container's Application Support/Snip/Captures folder. Show Snips opens the applicable folder.
These files stay on your Mac until you remove them. Snip does not automatically delete them when you close the window or quit. Separate editable annotations and undo history exist only in the current editing session. Snip also stores local preferences such as your capture delay and window placement.
A capture may be saved before you apply Redact. Later edits update that file, but do not remove earlier exports, clipboard copies or backups. Redaction is not a promise of secure erasure from storage or backup systems.
Your choices and controls.
You can revoke capture permission in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording (called Screen Recording on some versions of macOS). Opening or editing an existing image does not require this permission.
Use Show Snips to find automatic files and Finder to delete files you no longer need. Clear or replace clipboard content through macOS. Quitting ends Snip's in-memory editing session; it does not delete saved PNGs.
Sharing with other apps.
You control whether to paste or upload an exported image to a chat, AI service or another destination. Those services have their own privacy policies. Files saved into a folder managed by a backup or cloud-sync service may be copied by that service according to your settings. Snip does not provide its own cloud sync.
Purchases and App Store transaction processing are handled by Apple under Apple's policies. Snip does not collect payment-card information.
If you contact support.
We receive the email address, message and any files you choose to send. We use them to respond, troubleshoot the issue and maintain necessary support records. They may be processed by our email provider to deliver and store the correspondence. Do not send confidential screenshots unless they are needed to explain the issue.
Support correspondence is kept as needed to address the request and meet applicable obligations. You can contact us to request deletion of your support correspondence; some information may need to be retained where legally required.
This website.
This site is hosted through Lovable. Your browser sends connection information, such as your IP address and request details, to the hosting service when you visit, and the hosting provider handles those requests under its own privacy policy. We have not added analytics scripts, advertising, tracking pixels, a contact form or unnecessary cookies to these pages.
